Boys & Girls Club of the Muskegon Lakeshore Names Monica Turnbull as Chief Executive Officer
Boys & Girls Club of the Muskegon Lakeshore (BGCML) announced today that the Board of Directors unanimously named Monica Turnbull as the next Chief Executive Officer, effective August 29. BGCML conducted its search process with the assistance of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s CEO Search Team.
Turnbull, a West Michigan native, joined BGCML in 2021 as the Director of Resource Development, where she was responsible for grants, donor development, and fundraising events. Prior to BGCML, she worked at Pioneer Resources of Muskegon, where she organized and directed three departments, reporting directly to the CEO.
“I am incredibly honored and humbled by the opportunity to be a part of the positive impact that the Boys & Girls Club has here in my hometown of Muskegon,” Turnbull said. “As a mom of two young boys and a CTRS, I value the research-based programs implemented at BGCML that are designed to increase knowledge and understanding in healthy lifestyles, power hour (homework help), STEAM, adventure sports, and many more that will guide youth and teens to successful future endeavors.”
As CEO, Turnbull’s responsibilities include leading the organization’s strategic direction, oversight of organizational operations, financials, programming, brand reputation, talent recruitment, resource development, and stakeholder relationships. The CEO also serves as the organization’s primary ambassador and lead communicator. Turnbull, in partnership with her team, will oversee the organization’s club. The CEO reports to BGCML Board Chair, DJ Hilson.
Turnbull is proud Muskegon Catholic Central Crusader, and a graduate of Central Michigan University with a major in Therapeutic Recreation and a Gerontology minor. She has maintained her certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), though her career quickly took her into increasing levels of management responsibility in diverse roles, for both for-profit and non-profit organizations.
Turnbull is active in the community as a member of the Muskegon Innovation Hub, a Board Member of the Disability Network of West Michigan, and a volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Association, Be The Match, Pioneer Resources, Project Semi-Colon, and the American Red Cross.
She and her husband, Brandon Turnbull, have two young boys, Hudson and Gavin, and a golden doodle, Ollie.
