Key Club Program Areas

Empowering Youth Through Enrichment, Wellness, Careers, and Community

  • Academic Support & Mentorship

Club offers robust academic support through programs like Power Hour (homework help, tutoring) and Project Learn, focusing on homework and making learning engaging, ensuring kids graduate on time with future plans through mentorship, resources, and a supportive environment.

  • STEAM'N

Our STEAM’n initiative provides hands-on, project-based learning to foster creativity, critical thinking, and innovation, preparing youth for future careers by integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics, and Nutrition into our programs.

  • Healthy Lifestyles

From fitness to emotional wellness, our Healthy Lifestyles programs help youth make smart choices for life. Activities encourage teamwork, responsibility, and healthy habits — empowering youth to lead balanced, active, and confident lives.

  • Community Collaboration

The Boys & Girls Club of the Muskegon Lakeshore partners with a wide variety of partners including the City of Muskegon, Kid’s Food Basket, West MI Symphony, Miss Michigan, MI Works, Muskegon Community College, Muskegon Community Foundation, United Way of the Muskegon Lakeshore, WMEAC, Taco Bell, and so many more!

  • Career Readiness

From an early age through high school, supportive Club mentors provide opportunities to explore careers and post-secondary education to prepare youth with employability skills for future success. Clubs also connect teens to real-life work experiences such as internships and apprenticeships. Club also hosts career days, field trips including our annual spring break college tour, certification courses, and more.

  • Meals & Snacks

Youth that attend club enjoy a warm meal, fresh fruits and vegetables, milk, and a snack. Our Clubhouse food service team and Oakridge Chartwell’s partners serve thousands of amazing meals to our youth every year!

  • Philanthropy

Supporting our community is one of the most exciting programs for our youth! Different age groups choose how they would like to support the community. Youth have chosen projects supporting the environment, walking in the Juneteenth parade, hosting a car wash for a local non-profit, and more!

  • Events

Keep an eye out for information about our annual events highlighting youth that attend Club, like the Youth of the Year Celebration, Art Gallery Show, a summer Broadway Bootcamp performance, and more!

POSITIVE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

The Five Key Elements for Positive Youth Development are at the center of our work as a Boys & Girls Club. When implemented together and with consistency, the Club meets the developmental needs of youth by providing:

  1. A safe, positive environment

  2. Access to fun and a sense of belonging

  3. Access to supportive relationships

  4. Meaningful opportunities and expectations

  5. Formal and informal recognition
